Converge signs UNGC’s call to action for stronger anti-corruption efforts
Leading fiber broadband and technology provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has united with businesses around the globe in the call for governments to crack the whip against corruption affecting business communities worldwide.
Converge chief strategy officer and chief sustainability officer Benjamin Azada represented the company as he joined other business leaders in signing the Call-to-Action from Business to Governments on the 20th Anniversary of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).
The said call to action prompts governments globally to bring anti-corruption and good governance at the forefront of achieving a sustainable and inclusive economy and to embrace these as guiding principles of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Some of the steps promoted by the signatories in the appeal include the strengthening of policies for business integrity in supply chains, promotion of transparency in public-private interactions, integration of corporate sustainability criteria into government decision-making processes, and the use of technology to manage corruption risks, among others.
The signed appeal will be submitted at the tenth session of the Conference of the States Parties (CoSP10) on December 11 to 15 to serve as a basis for government discussions and decisions.

Honda Cars PH bags triple platinum for outstanding CSR
“Driven to Serve” Awards Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) received three platinum awards from the 6th Driven to Serve Awards of the Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists (SPMJ) for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These projects are related to road safety, environment protection and education.
HCPI’s recognition in the 6th Driven to Serve platinum awards are for the following projects: Teen Smart with Honda SENSING Demonstration for Students – Platinum Award; Recycling of Used Lead Acid Batteries and Industrial Oil – Platinum Award; Innovation Contest for Senior High School Students in the Philippines – Platinum Award
HCPI sustains efforts to promote road safety, through interactive learning sessions for college students, recently in partnership with an international organization of student youth leaders, AIESEC Philippines (AIESEC).
HCPI organizes educational programs on road safety for its different stakeholders such as the youth, through Teen Smart that started in 2004 to strengthen their consciousness and appreciation for road safety. Honda has been reinforcing its vehicles with the Honda SENSING suite of safety features to realize the vision of “Safety for Everyone.”
Aiming to reduce resource consumption and pollution through the proper disposal of hazardous lead-acid batteries and used oils, HCPI in 2006 inked a partnership program with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and Oriental – Motolite Marketing Corporation.
Aside from conserving resources, landfill space and energy, and avoiding further land and water contamination, HCPI has been supporting various environmental projects of Bantay Kalikasan such as the protection and preservation La Mesa Watershed and maintenance of the La Mesa Eco Park.
HCPI partnered with the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) in an innovation competition for young Filipinos in senior high school. The program fosters creative, innovative and collaborative mindsets among students.

CHED-AIM Global Academic Leadership Program: Cultivating Visionary Education Leaders
Leaders from 284 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) celebrated the culmination of their transformative journey through the Global Academic Leadership Program (GALP) on November 29. This collaborative initiative between the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) aimed to equip leaders with the skills needed to navigate the intricate landscape of 21st-century education, shaped by globalization, technology, and social concerns.
During the intensive 40-day online program, SUC and LUC presidents, alongside CHED officials, were immersed in frameworks, principles, and innovative tools tailored for addressing contemporary challenges. This comprehensive approach prepared them to handle stakeholder concerns, promote collaborative governance, and strategically transform their institutions into dynamic learning organizations.
The graduation ceremony, hosted at the AIM campus in Makati City, was graced by distinguished figures such as AIM President Jikyeong Kang, CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III, and SUC and LUC Program Directors Prof. Federico Macaranas and Prof. Nieves Confesor.
Now equipped as agile problem solvers, these graduates are poised to respond adeptly to the challenges posed by globalization, technology, and human-centered concerns outlined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Chevron marks volunteer Day 2023 with career training, values formation at Don Bosco Pugad

Chevron Philippines Inc.(CPI), marketer of the Caltex brand of fuel and lubricants, together with the Caltex Makati Credit Cooperative (CMCC), recently partnered with Don Bosco Pugad to provide professional coaching and career training for disadvantaged youth.
The activity marks CPI’s annual volunteering activity for this year. Twenty (20) disadvantaged youth scholars from Don Bosco Pugad were selected to participate.
Every year Chevron employees devote their time and energy to directly serve their host communities. This year’s theme focused on youth empowerment through career training and workforce preparation.
During the program, the young men talked about their strengths, experiences, and future goals through a series of enriching and interactive activities. Besides coaching and training, attendees received tips from Chevron representatives on skills and knowledge needed to navigate formal interviews and the professional world.
Chevron has a long history of partnership with Don Bosco Pugad as part of the Caltex Energy for Learning initiative. CPI provided commercial-grade equipment such as mixers, rollers as well as LPG for Don Bosco Pugad. The partnership birthed several livelihood projects such as Manna from Heaven Bakeshop which sells bread and pastries to the surrounding subdivision and condo residents. The success of the bakeshop led to Pugad’s quaint Coffee and Saints Café. Chevron and Pugad also launched the Caltex Pugad Mobile Mechanics, an auto repair program created to bring Pugad’s skilled mechanics to its customers’ homes.
Maasim LGU recognizes Alsons Power’s Sarangani Energy for fiscal boost

This year, Sarangani Energy remitted over Php61.4 million in local income tax contributions to the local government of Maasim, making it one of the top business taxpayers of the town.
During the town’s 54th founding anniversary celebration and 16th Kestebeng Festival, Mayor Zyrex Pacquiao and Vice Mayor Visitacion Nambatac along with members of the Sangguniang Bayan presented a plaque of recognition to Sarangani Energy, acknowledging the power generation firm’s exemplary tax compliance and commitment to responsible tax payment.
Located in the Kamanga Agro-Industrial Economic Zone in Maasim, the 210-megawatt Sarangani Energy Baseload Power Plant is the single largest power investment in the Province of Sarangani and the entire Region 12 at US$570 million. It is currently providing power to more than four million residents in the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Compostela Valley, Misamis Oriental, Davao del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur Agusan del Norte, and Agusan del Sur; as well as in the cities of General Santos, Iligan, Bayugan, Butuan, Samal, Tagum, Cagayan de Oro, Dapitan, Digos, Dipolog, Koronadal, Kidapawan, and Pagadian.
